The government has not appointed a new contractor to operate satellites to fill the 123-degree east longitude orbital slot. There is hesitancy following the launch of a new generation of satellites.
THE fate of the orbital slot or satellite trajectory at 123-degrees east longitude is now in limbo. After the Attorney General’s Office (AGO) revealed allegations of corruption in the procurement of the satellite that will occupy the vacant orbit, all stakeholders went silent. In fact, there is no tender or open auction for new investors that want to operate a satellite in that orbit.
