FORMER vice president Muhammad Jusuf Kalla challenged provincial heads in Sulawesi at the end of January. Kalla asked the regional governments of South Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi and Central Sulawesi to take over nickel mining company shares from foreign parties. According to Kalla, foreign investors do not need to be given special privileges, as local entrepreneurs are also capable of managing nickel mines in their own areas.
