Maybank Marathon 2022 held successfully a marathon race involving about ten thousand runners from 50 countries on Sunday, 28 August 2022. The Moroccan runner, Hassan Toriss, was the fastest in Marathon Open Male category with time record of 2:15:38.  Meanwhile, Immaculate Chemutai of Uganda successfully secured a title in Marathon Open Female category.

Immaculate Chemutai set a time of 2:42:32 in recent Maybank Marathon. Slower 24 seconds compared to hers when winning the 2019 edition with a time of 2:42:08.

According to Immaculate, the rain pouring along the race this year actually quite helpful for setting her pace compared to the intensely-hot race in 2019. "The challenge on this marathon is its quite difficult track with extreme ups and downs. The encounter with a group of runners from other categories in final path also slows down my pace," she said to Tempo following the race.

Nevertheless, she was happy to race and secure a title in Maybank Marathon. This event, she expressed, was one challenging marathon, but on the other side, also gave an interesting experience. The beauty of nature and people of Bali made her really enjoy Maybank Marathon.

"I must return next year, but it depends on my agent," she said. "And I surely will tell other world's elite runner to compete in Maybank Marathon.  It is a world class elite race," said the runner who was born on 2 December 1987.

Like Immaculate, an Indonesian female marathon runner, Odekta Elvina Naibaho, also successfully clinched a title in Maybank Marathon 2022 in Marathon National Female category. Using the race number of 20287, Odekta set a time of 2:55:45. Fasters than hers in 2019 where she set a time of 2:56:08.

The gold medallist of SEA Games Vietnam 2021 repeatedly thanked to God for her success and appreciated the Maybank Marathon. In Odekta's opinion, the race was very competitive. It pumped up the runners to get to the finish line.

"From the perspective of euphoria, that is the appeal of Maybank Marathon, differentiates it from other similar events.  So much cheering. School pupils standing along the track always cheer. It makes me think, they are willing to stand and cheer for us from early morning, for hours, so we, the runners, must be encouraged to finish the race," she said.

Although securing a title, Odekta concerned about the lack of regeneration of Indonesian marathon runners.  For the category she won, the second position was held by Irma Handayani with a time of 3:15:04.  Almost 20 minutes slower than Odekta's.

Therefore, Odekta urged the importance of regeneration to all parties. Her achievement was expected to motivate the young potential runners, which eventually regenerated other winning marathon runners.  For information, the gold medal she won in female marathon of last year SEA Games Hanoi was the breaker of Indonesia's winless period in marathon during the last eleven years.
