THE Tapanuli orangutan is one of Indonesia’s natural treasures. Identified in 2017 as a new species, it lives only in Sumatra’s Batang Toru ecosystem. The fact that a large, furry, orange creature could remain hidden to science into this millennium shows that the Earth remains full of wonders. Its existence is one of many reasons I love Indonesia.
