HIS name was Muhammad ibn Musa al-Khwarizmi. He was a Persian. In the 9th century, he led the largest scientific institution in the world: Bayt al-Hikmah. Headquartered in Baghdad, Iraq, Bayt al-Hikmah, or the House of Wisdom, translated and published more than 60,000 books.
