THE Bener Dam in Purworejo, Central Java, will become a monument to Joko Widodo’s style of developmentalism. Although it is claimed it will “bring prosperity to the people,” this dam is being built by trampling on the livelihoods of many people, particularly the inhabitants of Wadas village, the area being used as a source of andesite, the main big building material of the project.
