The Mandiodo Block in North Konawe belonging to a state-owned enterprise is being fought over by a dozen nickel mining companies. This ignores a Supreme Court ruling.
THIS is another form of mining conflict: companies trying to elbow each other aside. While in other locations, there are open disputes between corporations and local people, the friction between nickel miners in North Konawe, Southeast Sulawesi, is taking place behind closed doors.
