The marriage of Anwar Usman to the sister of President Joko Widodo could damage the independence and quality of the rulings issued by the Constitutional Court. This is at odds with the Judicial Authority Law.

NOTHING should be allowed to prevent a marriage between two people who love one another. But when there is a potential to trigger conflicts of interest or abuses of public office, a marriage that is legally valid should still be avoided. It is in order to preserve the integrity of a position that the marriage between Constitutional Court Chair Anwar Usman and President Joko Widodo’s sister Idayati should not have gone ahead.
