Indonesia fails to preserve peatlands that could mitigate the climate crisis. The carbon trading scheme to conserve peatlands is still unclear.
AS the nation with the fourth largest expanse of peatlands in the world, Indonesia is unable to preserve this means of delaying the climate crisis. The area of damaged peatlands now extends to 20 million hectares, or 84 percent of the total ecosystem. There have been no strategic measures from the government to protect and prevent further destruction of them.
