THE government’s plan to strive for self-sufficiency in sugar supply in our market is like listening again to a never-ending old song. Every time Joko Widodo’s administration fails to achieve this ambition, ministers in the cabinet set a new target for sugar self-sufficiency for a different year. These constantly changing targets show the ineffectiveness of government strategies to manage sugar.
