There have been many attempts to extend the terms of office of public officials during Jokowi’s second administration. These are at odds with constitutional principles.

IT is not clear why the issue of extending public officials’ terms of office have become so prominent in the second administration of President Joko Widodo. Throughout last year, many have tried to extend the terms of office of the president, the terms of commissioners in several state agencies, and of village heads. All of these efforts are extremely dangerous.
