Vietnamese fishing boats poach fish in Malaysian and Indonesian waters not only because of dwindling stocks in their own country. HENDRI, 50, recalled the golden days in Natuna, Riau Islands, before 2010. At that time, fish were abundant and sold for good prices at the open markets in Tanjungpinang City, Batam, and Pontianak, West Kalimantan, and even as far as Singapore and Malaysia. According to this Chairman of the Natuna Fishermen’s Alliance, that all began to slowly change after foreign fishing vessels came dragging pair trawl, damaging the coral reef.
