The shortage of coal for domestic power plants is the result of poor management from PLN and the government. An export ban will not solve the problem.
IF it is intended as shock therapy, the one month ban on exporting coal announced by the government at the beginning of this year could be said to have produced results: businesspeople are confused, and political tensions have increased over the last few days. But if the policy is aimed at guaranteeing future supplies of coal for steam power plants in Indonesia, then the government’s decision is mistaken.
