THE year of the tiger 2022 begins with a big bang. Without warning, the Indonesian government bans coal export, across the board, for the whole month of January. The ban came about after coal miners failed to fulfill their domestic market obligation (DMO) to sell 25 percent of their product to the state electricity company, PLN. In 2021, all coal miners only supplied 63.5 million tons, less than half of their quota of 137.5 million tons
