That brutal, hopeless and never-ending history probably started in a small Palestinian town 15 kilometers southeast of Tel Aviv. Arabs call it al-Ludd (). The Jews now call it by its Biblical name Lod. It used to be known as Lydda.
Before the turmoil of World War II, Arabs lived side by side there with the Jews who had started arriving in 1913. On the slopes, a Jewish immigrant established an olive-oil soap factory; another founded an orphanage for forced exiles from Eastern Europe.

ASSORTED cakes lay on the table for guests at the home of Mahfud Md at Sambilegi, a district of Yogyakarata, during Lebaran week. The host, looking relaxed and clad in the traditional Muslim attire befitting the festivities, entered the living room and sat down on a sofa.
That evening, the former Constitutional Court chief justice and recently the campaign manager of the Prabowo Subianto-Hatta Rajasa ticket, had just returned from paying his respects to Herry Zudianto, a fellow Gerindra campaign manager for Yogyakarta. At the home of Herry, a former Yogyakarta mayor, Mahfud was greeted by the crew of TV One, who proceeded to conduct an interview over the ongoing dispute on the results of the recently completed presidential election.

Two young brothers, graduates of a technical high school in Salatiga, Central Java, beat out full-fledged engineers from Oxford University in the UK, to win the recent General Electric's 3D Printing Challenge contest. "Arfi'an Fuadi and M.Arie Kurniawan succeeded in designing a jet engine bracket-a component to raise aircraft engines-weighing much less than what has been designed," said Handry Satriago, CEO of General Electric Indonesia at an event honoring the winners on July 22.
