The Dream of Beef Self-Sufficiency

The agriculture ministry created a Cattle Village Corporation program known as the 1,000 Cattle Villages in 2020 in the quest for self-sufficiency in beef supply. Local cows are mated with Australian cattle.

IN Ria village, Ngada Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, the cattle sheds have cracks and broken poles, and their interiors are covered by vines and bushes growing over piles of dried out hay. These abandoned sheds were meant to house cattle granted by the ministry of agriculture when it launched the Cattle Village Corporation program in early 2021.
