IN the last three years, the monthly income of Anna Medika Hospital in Bekasi has tripled. This C- class hospital was even able to purchase additional dialysis machines, increasing the number from eight to 43. All this occurred after the hospital began participating in the National Health Insurance program (JKN) managed by the Social Security Agency (BPJS).
"In the past, we earned just under Rp3 billion a month. Now our income is almost Rp10 billion," Anna Medika Hospital CEO, Slamet Effendy told Tempo last week.

Stacks of planting medium called baglogs were neatly placed in a 150-meter square area, surrounded by walls made of woven bamboo. There were 6,000 baglogs in the room, each of them filled with white oyster mushrooms.
Ni Wayan Purnami Rusadi, 25, checked each growing medium, carefully picked mushrooms that were big enough, and put the harvested products in a basket. "These are all ready to be sold," she told Tempo English at her home in the Peguyangan Kaja village near Denpasar, Bali, two weeks ago.

I don't understand Bob Dylan. Maybe that's how it should be: something that fascinates is something that does not have to be, or cannot be, understood. I read Dylan's book of poetry, Tarantula, which he wrote in 1966 when he was twenty-five. In it, words move not like letters, not like vessels of meaning, but as sound, in their repetition, consonants, emphasis, and syllable length:
mother say go in That direction & please
do the greatest deed of all time & say i say
mother but it's already been done & she say
well what else is there for you to do & i say
i dont know mother, but i'm not going in That
directioni'm going in that direction & she
say ok but where will you be & i say i dont
know mother but i'm not tom joad & she say
all right then i am not your mother
do the greatest deed of all time & say i say
mother but it's already been done & she say
well what else is there for you to do & i say
i dont know mother, but i'm not going in That

Deborah Gabinetti is quick, gregarious, and emotivean immediate presence as soon as she enters a room. Yet she gives the impression of someone who is used to listening and observing. She will stop in the middle of a story to check your reaction, is not afraid to let pauses linger, tilts her head at you when curious to know what your take is on a situation and persists until she receives an answer.
When Tempo called Balinale's hotline to inquire about the festival, it was Gabinetti who answered the call. "This is Deborah. The director of the festival. Yes, I'm picking up calls," she said, laughing heartily, when asked who was on the other end of the line.

Ignasius Jonan received the unexpected invitation through his cell phone at 11pm on Thursday a fortnight ago. The caller, State Secretary Pratikno, invited him to his official residence at Widya Chandra Complex, South Jakarta, the next morning. Jonan accepted the invitation.
Pratikno extended President Joko Widodo's offer for Jonan to rejoin the cabinet. Jokowi had removed Jonan from the post of transportation minister during the cabinet reshuffle last July. "At the time, he (Pratikno) told me I might be reassigned," said Jonan to Tempo at the presidential palace complex last week.

Like a virus, the rector election drama has spread to a number of universities. Initially, the only buzz heard in Jakarta was the rector election at Haluoleo University in Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi. It turns out many universities in other regions are also experiencing a 'fever' caused by the same virus infection.
A number of teachers at the Haluoleo early in September lodged a complaint to the National Ombudsman on irregularities in the preparations for rector election. According to Ombudsman member Alamsyah Saragih, the incoming reports mention, among others, the devised appointment of university senate members to pave the way for one of the candidates to become rector.
