President Joko Widodo had good reasons to send Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, 52, to meet protesting labor union members last September 1. He is, after all, well-known for his negotiating skills. "Yes, that's my job. Anyway the President was having dinner with (an association of) minibus drivers," explained Pramono.
He was sworn in to his present position as minister in charge of cabinet affairs on August 12, replacing Andi Wijayanto. Basuki Priyanto, 39, spent the past two months in his home country, Indonesia, to celebrate the month of Ramadan and Idul Fitri with his extended family. He tried his best to use his 34 days of annual leave from his job as an engineer in Sweden, in addition to 240 days of paternity leave he is allowed to use for the birth of his second child.
"My parents no longer complain I work overseas, because I can spend more time coming back to Indonesia compared to my siblings who are working in another town," he told Tempo in South Jakarta last week. But long holidays were not his reason for moving to Lund in Sweden, seven years ago. It was the opportunity to excel as an engineer in the field of wireless communication. To date, Basuki holds 23 patents under his name in 4G and 5G technology.

Island Sanctuary for 'Unreleasable' Orangutans
The Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation (BOS) has finalized plans to convert 655 hectares of estuary in Central Kalimantan into a protected habitat for rehabilitated orangutans.
The move is part of the National Strategy and Action Plan for Orangutan Conservation (2007-2017), which sets a 2015 deadline for the release of orangutans back into the wild. The sanctuary will be located on the 3,419 hectare Salat Nusa Island in the province's Pulang Pisau Regency.
