Heru Prasetyo Kasidi Deputy Minister for Gender Issues, WOmen's Empowerment and children protection ministry
Women must be politically aware

Women's participation in politics in Indonesia is still low. The number of female legislators in the House of Representatives (DPR) for the 2014-2019 term is only 97, or 17.32 percent of the total number of parliamentarian seats. This is what is making Indonesia's legislature and policymaking not pro-women and children.

Heru Prasetyo Kasidi, the deputy minister in charge of gender issues at the women's empowerment and child protection ministry, called for an increase of women in the legislature. He said the government was attempting to raise the participation of women in politics through a variety of training programs. "Ideally, women should have a more equal role to men in the public sector, including in politics and development," said Heru.

Profiting from a Corruptor's Assets

Chuck Suryosumpeno will find it hard to forget the Attorney-General Office's (AGO) memo he received on December 4, 2015. The memo, accusing him of bypassing his superiors and disregarding his obligations as state prosecutor, was delivered that evening to his Maluku AGO office by courier. As a result of the memo, Chuck lost his job as the province's chief state prosecutor.

The issue was how he handled Hendra Rahardja's assets in 2011 and 2012, when Chuck headed the Task Force for the Disposal of Misappropriated and Other Confiscated Goods. Hendra's assets consisted of three properties located in Jatinegara, East Jakarta; Puri Kembangan, West Jakarta; and in Bogor, West Java. "A week later, I was accused of misappropriating them," Chuck told Tempo two weeks ago.

Attorney-General H.M. Prasetyo
We work quietly

Attorney-General Prasetyo emerged carrying a copy of a three-week-old Tempo, bearing a picture of Surya Paloh on its cover. "I'm being persecuted," he said before throwing the magazine on the desk. Prasetyo burst out in frustration over the corruption case of North Sumatra social welfare funds and grants, in which he has been implicated. The case was Tempo's cover story that week.

Prasetyo was upset at the story for implying that money had inappropriately flowed to the Attorney-General's Office (AGO) that he leads. He also felt all this was part of a conspiracy to unseat him from the AGO. Along with Maruli Hutagalung, who was at the time director of investigations, Prasetyo allegedly received money from people his own AGO had charged with misusing the social welfare funds.

The Yess Story: Cassettes with A Mission

Music lovers and album collectors look forward to the Record Store Day, held every year on the third Saturday of April. In celebration of Record Store Day, Tempo takes a look into a story of nostalgia about records copied onto audio cassettes, and the tape-recording 'home industry' which boomed in Bandung in the 1970s and 1980s.

There were at least four labels that re-recorded albums onto tape at the time: Yess, Mona Lisa, Apple and Hidayat Recording. Each label had its own specific identity based on its managers' tastes. Yess specialized in progressive rock, not caring if the market was limited.

Mona Lisa put out southern rock albums; Hidayat focused on jazz. Even today, those self-copied cassettes are still sought after by cassette collectors. Many Indonesian musicians feel Yess played a crucial role in honing their taste in music.
